Greetings and salutations from the Northeast corner of the Buckeye State where the temperature is currently 35 degrees Fahrenheit and cloudy skies.
I want to thank the volunteers who participated in the ARRL Ohio Section ARES leadership meeting last Saturday, March 15th.
93 participants converged on the State of Ohio Emergency Operations Center in Columbus for the best ARES leadership meeting I have ever seen. I have received nothing but great comments about the meeting, the food, and the presentations. The meeting minutes are being typed and will be on the Ohio Section website when completed. Some of the presentations have already been posted in the ARES Secured Area.
Training documents. There has been a change as to who is maintaining the Ohio Section Training database. I thank the Ohio Section Technical Coordinator, Jim Yoder W8ERW, for stepping up and taking on this assignment. From this point forward, if you have any training documents that have not been submitted, please send them to Jim at w8erw@arrl.net. Contact me should you have any questions.
The ARES Forum at the 2014 Dayton Hamvention is confirmed for Sunday, May 18th from 10:30AM in Room 3. I am pleased to announce this year's presenter will be ARRL Emergency Preparedness Manager Mike Corey KI1U. His presentation topic will be The Served Community - A whole community approach to Amateur Radio public service.
This forum is for all past, present, and future amateur radio volunteers interested in emergency, disaster, public service, and digital communications. All are welcome regardless of ARRL membership, club membership, or license class. This forum is usually "standing room only" so please come early.
I'd also like to direct your attention to the Emcomm Vehicle Display at Hamvention. If you have an emcomm vehicle / trailer, or know someone who does, Dayton Hamvention is one of the best times to show it off and share ideas amongst others who share the same passion. The coordinator for the display is Gary Hollenbaugh NJ8BB. His contact information is located on the emcomm vehicle display website http://www.kd8arb.com/daytonecommdisplay . Check out the website for details on free admission tickets and parking passes for those who bring a trailer or emcomm vehicle.
I am thoroughly looking forward to my visit to the OH-KY-IN Amateur Radio Club meeting on Tuesday, April 1st at 7:30PM at the St. Bernard Municipal Building in St. Bernard just North of Cincinnati. I will be giving a bird's eye view of the ARES program in the Ohio Section. I will also be promoting a multitude of amateur radio events scheduled throughout the year. Not to mention, there will be time for question & answer. As always, my interactive presentations are for all past, present, and future ARES volunteers. I do not get down to the Cincinnati area often enough so my time is your time. Please mark your calendars and come join me at the OH-KY-IN ARC meeting on Tuesday, April 1st. No joke, I will be there. ;-)
There are plenty of things happening across the Ohio Section. Way more than I could ever possibly write here. Please visit your ARRL Ohio Section website www.arrl-ohio.org. The website is not just for ARRL members. It's for all amateur radio operators regardless of membership in ARRL, amateur radio club, or license class.
That's all I have for this week. Next week I'll be briefing everyone on where we're at with the first ever ARES Training Camp in September and the first ARESMAT Team in the Ohio Section. Thank you for all you do for amateur radio. Have a nice weekend.
