Greetings and salutations from the Northeast corner of the Buckeye State where the temperature is currently 35 degrees Fahrenheit and cloudy skies.

I want to thank the volunteers who participated in the ARRL Ohio Section ARES leadership meeting last Saturday, March 15th.

93 participants converged on the State of Ohio Emergency Operations Center in Columbus for the best ARES leadership meeting I have ever seen.  I have received nothing but great comments about the meeting, the food, and the presentations.  The meeting minutes are being typed and will be on the Ohio Section website when completed.  Some of the presentations have already been posted in the ARES Secured Area.

Training documents.  There has been a change as to who is maintaining the Ohio Section Training database.  I thank the Ohio Section Technical Coordinator, Jim Yoder W8ERW, for stepping up and taking on this assignment.  From this point forward, if you have any training documents that have not been submitted, please send them to Jim at w8erw@arrl.net.  Contact me should you have any questions.

The ARES Forum at the 2014 Dayton Hamvention is confirmed for Sunday, May 18th from 10:30AM in Room 3. I am pleased to announce this year's presenter will be ARRL Emergency Preparedness Manager Mike Corey KI1U. His presentation topic will be The Served Community - A whole community approach to Amateur Radio public service.

This forum is for all past, present, and future amateur radio volunteers interested in emergency, disaster, public service, and digital communications. All are welcome regardless of ARRL membership, club membership, or license class. This forum is usually "standing room only" so please come early.

I'd also like to direct your attention to the Emcomm Vehicle Display at Hamvention. If you have an emcomm vehicle / trailer, or know someone who does, Dayton Hamvention is one of the best times to show it off and share ideas amongst others who share the same passion. The coordinator for the display is Gary Hollenbaugh NJ8BB. His contact information is located on the emcomm vehicle display website http://www.kd8arb.com/daytonecommdisplay . Check out the website for details on free admission tickets and parking passes for those who bring a trailer or emcomm vehicle.
I am thoroughly looking forward to my visit to the OH-KY-IN Amateur Radio Club meeting on Tuesday, April 1st at 7:30PM at the St. Bernard Municipal Building in St. Bernard just North of Cincinnati.  I will be giving a bird's eye view of the ARES program in the Ohio Section.  I will also be promoting a multitude of amateur radio events scheduled throughout the year.  Not to mention, there will be time for question & answer.  As always, my interactive presentations are for all past, present, and future ARES volunteers.  I do not get down to the Cincinnati area often enough so my time is your time.  Please mark your calendars and come join me at the OH-KY-IN ARC meeting on Tuesday, April 1st.  No joke, I will be there.  ;-)

There are plenty of things happening across the Ohio Section.  Way more than I could ever possibly write here.  Please visit your ARRL Ohio Section website www.arrl-ohio.org.  The website is not just for ARRL members.  It's for all amateur radio operators regardless of membership in ARRL, amateur radio club, or license class.

That's all I have for this week.  Next week I'll be briefing everyone on where we're at with the first ever ARES Training Camp in September and the first ARESMAT Team in the Ohio Section.  Thank you for all you do for amateur radio.  Have a nice weekend.

Greetings and salutations from the Northeast corner of the Buckeye State where the current temperature is 12 degrees and overcast.  There were no Ohio SEC Notes last week.

I am finding out that many amateur radio volunteers do not know about the Ohio Section website www.arrl-ohio.org.  This website is NOT only for ARRL members.  It's for ALL amateur radio operators regardless of membership in the ARRL.  ARES leaders are encouraged to promote the Ohio Section website at their ARES meetings, club meetings, and other amateur radio events.

Hats off to OES Dave Rickon NF8O for going through the Official Emergency Station listing as recorded at ARRL HQ.  Dave has done an impressive job of contacting everyone on the OES listing and verifying their contact info and briefing them on upcoming events.  If you currently hold an Official Emergency Station appointment and have not been contacted by Dave, please drop him an email at drickon@zoominternet.net.  Thanks.

ARES of Portage County is holding a Public Service Basic Skills Training on Wednesday, March 5th at beginning at 7PM and concluding at 9PM at the Center for Hope in Ravenna, Ohio. Contact DEC Jim KC8PD at aylwardjim@aol.com for details.

The Ohio ARES leadership meeting agenda has been posted on the ARES page on the Ohio Section website http://www.arrl-ohio.org.

There will be an ARES Forum at the Toledo Hamfest at 10AM on Sunday, March 16th at Owens Community College in Perrysburg, OH.  This forum is for all past, present, and future ARES volunteers.  This forum will be especially important because details will be announced from the Ohio Section ARES Leadership meeting.

I have accepted Scott Phillips's resignation as Assistant SEC which is effective March 1st, 2014.  I thank Scott for his years of service to the Ohio Section.  Scott has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the Ohio Section Training Database not only for the 87 ARES leaders but the thousands of amateur radio volunteers in the Ohio Section.

Please do not send Scott Phillips any further training documents as it's been explained to us they will end up in the circular file with zero recognition or response.  We certainly do not want that to happen as your training documents are important to us.  Therefore, Scott Yonally has accepted the responsibility to maintain the Ohio Section Training Database.  Any future training documents should be sent directly to Scott Yonally at n8sy@n8sy.com with a carbon copy to me at w8dec@arrl.net.
It's that time of year for SKYWARN training.

I highly recommend amateur radio volunteers to take SKYWARN training provided by the National Weather Service.  It's free, educational, and informative.

Click on the links below to find a SKYWARN training session near you.
The training schedule for NWS Wilmington is provided at http://www.erh.noaa.gov/iln/training.php.
The training schedule for NWS Cleveland is provided at http://www.weather.gov/cle/SKYWARN_schedule

The training schedule for NWS Pittsburgh, PA is provided at http://www.erh.noaa.gov/pit/skymeet.html

That's all for this week.  Thank you for everything you do for amateur radio.
