PLEASE DISTRIBUTE TO YOUR MEMBERS

Hi all. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

AND GET READY FOR THE ARES VHF SIMPLEX CONTEST JANUARY 9th!!! Are you fired up? A lot of people are. Some answers: No, you do not have to be an ARES member to contest. Go fir it! If the contact you work (1 point) identifies as an ARES official, the extra 5 point bonus applies and the QSO is worth 6 points! No, I don’t have an ‘official exchange’ but I assume you’ll need to know the county of the other station, since that’s how you’re multiplying. So I know you can work that part out!

January 9 from 10AM to 6PM! I’ll be looking for your stations!

Some very important stuff is coming up! Look for major announcements about training after the first of the year. It’s going to take us to the next level!

I can’t thank you all enough for everything you do, and everything you stand ~ready~ to do!

EC, DEC but to everyone: we need to step up our meetings and training. I’m seeing reports repeatedly from counties with no training. We are not going to stay up with the responding agencies like that. Please, refer back to my earlier articles if you need ideas about training. Another important aspect is our monthly reports! PLEASE make sure you turn these in!! The numbers are very important, and can be used to justify grants, laws, and other considerations from our agencies and our government.

Now, here are the monthly reports for November.

ARES Ohio Section Monthly report for the month of: November, 2015 starting out with comments from the SEC

Big thanks go out to Brad Swinehart, leaving Perry County on a job transfer! Welcome to Eric Willman, WD8LEI stepping into the EC job for Wood County. Welcome to Jeff Sharpe, N8WVU who steps into the EC position for Henry County.

I have a most important “thank you” for Jeff Rahmel who is retiring from Henry County for medical reasons. I just can’t say enough for Jeff! Work well done, sir!

District comments were a bit slim this month, but the best holiday wishes apply to all!

District 1 Best Wishes for a Merry Christmas to everyone.

Stark Co ARES conducted 4 public service nets for the month of November that totaled 143 check-ins.

The Massillon ARC and Stark Co ARES completed the re-installation of a UHF repeater located at Massillon's Affinity Hospital that will be used for support communications in Western Stark County and Skywarn operations. The entire system was retuned with new feedline and a new antenna. Coverage is now greatly enhanced. They also completed the last scheduled public service event of the year with the Massillon Holiday Parade on Saturday, Nov 21st. Sixteen volunteers provided support communications including unit staging, TV Production and route monitoring for the over 120 units that made up this year's parade.

Licking Licking County had a quiet November! We had only 1 incident this month and thankfully no one was seriously hurt. A semi hauling chemicals went through a guard rail and rolled into a creek spilling part of its load. It was a 2 day clean up process. 4 personal were injured and their injuries were minor. Work on the CERT / ARES trailer continues. December looks to be a quiet month. Wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Marion November was quiet month for the Marion ARES crew with no weather or other emergency related events. The November Training Session had program on different types of batteries and their use as standby power source for use if commercial power is not available. A video was also shown describing the Yaesu Fusion repeater which the ARES will be putting into service soon on the UHF repeater system, W8MRN. Deputy Brian Lovell, KC8LTE, from the Marion County Sheriff\\\'s Office, presented a program on action to take if involved in an active shooter situation. Two videos were presented followed with a general discussion. Little did we realize how timely the topic would become with the recent terrorist attack in California. The Marion Fairground Christmas light display opened Thanksgiving night and will run nightly until after Christmas. The ARES helps providing
security at the fairgrounds by patrolling the area after hours to discourage vandalism to the many displays. This is done as payment for the use of the building shared by the Marion Amateur Radio Club and ARES used as a clubhouse and EOC.

Morrow No Report

Pickaway The PCoARES was asked by the Circleville Downtown Business Association (DBA) to help with traffic control during the city's annual Christmas Parade held on November 28th. We had operators at each intersection throughout the parade route and also one operator with the Parade Coordinator keeping her informed on the progress of the parade. The DBA was very happy with the performance of the PCoARES and has already asked us to do it again next year. Union No Report
