The District Traffic
net had 319 check ins, passed 130 pieces of traffic in 31 sessions which took
484 minutes. I have been working with with the newly formed NWO-AREDN group to
work on getting Lucas County up on a MESH network with the hope of getting the
rest of District 1 interested in joining the group. District 1 had their
monthly NORC-2 net for health care facilities that received amateur radio
equipment through the Hospital Council Of Northwest Ohio. I had a meeting with
the HCNO concerning the monthly tests, new facilities that are in the works of
getting equipment. I also received radio equipment that I keep for installation
and we discussed funding opportunities that were available for projects the
district is working on to replace equipment and start new MESH projects.

The Seneca County ARES group provided communications for the
Seneca East Tiger Classic cross country event and the Sandusky river clean
sweep event.

Comments : It has been an active month in Sandusky County ARES. We had several severe weather nets with the storms that rolled through the area. One of the storms caused a lighting strike to knock out most of the city of Clyde’s power for a few hours. During this storm, spotters were on “standby” in case further assistance was needed. We also reported that there was 1.5” of rain that fell in the storm which caused major localized flooding on the roadways, which prompted an advisory from the NWS. In addition to the severe weather nets we held our monthly meeting as well as worked the Sandusky County Fair. The fair is always enjoyable to see different people and some of which that stopped by looked at the weather radar and Go Kit we had running for operations. We look forward this Fall as our goal is to have different topics presented at meetings as well as doing SET’s and some Fox Hunts. I hope everyone enjoys the upcoming month as we approach the harvest season! 73, Owen

The Hardin County ARES was involved in a few things this
month with the Kenton Amateur Radio Club.
Our first event was setting up for Courthouses on the air.
Only 1 contact was made but it was fun. Even though we advertised it on social
media, we didn’t reach out to other media. The local newspaper saw our trailer
and banner so they stopped in to do a little interview. Got us a little corner
of the front page the following Monday.
Our next event was the “Cursive Ohio Bike Adventure”. Riders
had a choice of 15,35 or 65 mile routes. Riders from the 35 and 65 mile routes
rode the backroads of Hardin County to spell out Ohio just like “Script Ohio”
at Ohio State games. This was the 3rd annual ride. Started with 5
riders the first year, grew to 15 the 2nd year and made it to 62
riders this year. The ride organizer but a bunch of effort into this and fed us
well after. He has gotten a lot of positive feedback and is expecting the ride
to double in size for next year. All proceeds was for Cystic Fibrosis Research.
That is a very meaningful cause as I
have 2 cousins with CF and it was another cousin of mine who has organized the
ride. This year he was able to donate over $2,000 to CF!!
We are now planning on a large scale drill with our LEPC in
October. An active shooter will be entering a building in which his job was
terminated and causing harm. More details after the drill.

Three Shelby County ARES
This report covers August 2019
Currently have 35 members on the books.
SCARES has a weekly Net every Sunday evening at 1900 on
146.835 – PL 156.7 for a total of 4 nets and 32.5 man hours for the month of
August.
August 2 &3, SCARES supported the Shelby County Relay
for Life Cancer walk. SCARES supplies HT radios to the Relay staff, maintains a
drop off point and secures access to the EMA building where finance does their business.
71.5 man hours.
August 10, SCARES supported the Sidney YMCA 5K run with
communications at major intersections for 9.5 man hours.
August 14, Shelby County ARES was asked to attend a meeting
of Sidney City Council and the EMA director to help plan and support the Shelby
County Bicentennial Guinness Book of World Record attempt on September 18,
2019. Meetings continue weekly until the event, resulting in 22.5 man hours for
August.
August 18, Nick Sabo, KC8CFI and I performed maintenance on
the 146.835 repeater in Maplewood. 4

Comments : lub conducted two bunny hunts one in Troy Ohio and the other in Piqua Ohio with good results in both event. The club also support the Tour De Donut riding event. The Tour de Donut bike ride is a unique bicycle event, where the ability to eat donuts is just as important as the ability to ride a bicycle fast. We were able to filed operators to cover four routes with three routes overlapping for part of the distance. The four routes ranged in distance from 9.72, 19.7, 34.4 and 58.5 miles. Although the majority of riders completed the ride without issues or problems, there were several cases where riders required assistance of the SAG services for them self or machinal breakdown and one event where EMS services were required due to a rider falling over/off their bike resulting in injury.

Comments : This month has been a fun month. Preble participated in two activities. Members cooperated with Wayne county, Indiana ARES for a event to control parking. This was the first year for this. Looking forward to many more activities with a neighbors. Preble participated in the OHIO QSO PARTY in the EOC category. We set up a SSB and cw station and the clubs 70ft crank up tower. Many operators took their turn at the mic. We had only two CW operators. New techniques were tried to minimize station to station interference. Preble earned over 120,000 points and is expected to take the EOC category again for 2019. The Preble co. repeater is still with out a amplifier and is operating at reduced coverage. A used amplifier was purchased off ebay but it was tuned to the VHF public service band. It was returned and a request for quote has been made for a brand-new amplifier. We expect the repeater to be back to full coverage by October.

Comments : This month has been a fun month. Preble participated in two activities. Members cooperated with Wayne county, Indiana ARES for a event to control parking. This was the first year for this. Looking forward to many more activities with a neighbors. Preble participated in the OHIO QSO PARTY in the EOC category. We set up a SSB and cw station and the clubs 70ft crank up tower. Many operators took their turn at the mic. We had only two CW operators. New techniques were tried to minimize station to station interference. Preble earned over 120,000 points and is expected to take the EOC category again for 2019. The Preble co. repeater is still with out a amplifier and is operating at reduced coverage. A used amplifier was purchased off ebay but it was tuned to the VHF public service band. It was returned and a request for quote has been made for a brand-new amplifier. We expect the repeater to be back to full coverage by October.

Warren County ARES Monthly Report – August, 2019
The Warren County ARES group participated in two activities
this month: a monthly net and a field training exercise.
The monthly net occurred on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. Five
participants took part in the net..
The training exercise consisted of sending members to
various positions around the perimeter of Mason and establishing a net to test
area communications. This was done in conjunction with meetings with the Mason
fire department who is considering using amateur radio for emergency
communications. A report was sent to
them. An after-action report is included
with this submission. This exercise produced the largest turnout of any
activity we’ve had so far.
Given the large turnout we plan to have more field training
exercises. It would be very helpful if
we could partner with either Butler or Hamilton Counties (or both) for such
evxercises.

We exercised our emergency notification systems on Aug 05 and received great feedback. We want to do it again in Sep to clean a few things up. Aug 25 the ARES admin received an early wake up call from CEMA. MARCS dispatch consoles were down in several counties. ARES admin prepared for activation. All others were placed on standby for several hours until the issues was fixed. I was told that this event can happen again at any time until the radio vendors deploy a fix. Something to keep in mind o a state-wide level. We ended the month with supporting Riverfest Cincinnati. A log day but all went well. Side Note: We have offered comms relay services to some of our friends in FL due to hurricane activities. With the dynamic situation of Dorian they have been on and off alert status. However, as of Aug 02 it looks like they are back into response mode over the next week. We may receive some traffic after all.

Licking County Comments
August was a busy month with various planning meetings for
upcoming exercises and events.
August exercises included Vigilant Guard 2019 and events
included Honor the Service.
Vigilant Guard 2019 was a huge success for us as we tested
the new EOC, Go-Boxes and newly installed antenna, we also exercised the
CERT/ARES communications trailer to test the systems for any issues and problem
that needs upgraded or repaired and we found a few issues that needs looked
into. Communications between the Ohio Fire Academy (CERT/ARES Comms Trailer),
Licking Co. EMA/EOC and Ohio EMA (The Sarge) were established and successful
via VHF and DMR although HF was not. A mesh network was set up between the
communications trailer and the IC tent and tested and found a few issues the
need to looked into and was successful. The team worked very well together and
learned from one another at both the EOC and CERT/ARES comms trailer.
The Licking Co EMA staff was very pleased on how well the
communications worked between sites, the command staff from other agencies
involved made a surprise visit to both the Incident Command tent and the
communication trailer to check on the communications and take tour of both
areas, they wanted to see how well the communications outside of the Ohio Fire
Academy was doing and they were excited to hear that we were communicating with
the State of Ohio EOC as well as Licking Co. EOC. Thank you to all who
participated. Job well done!
Honor the Service was an event to honor the Korean War
Veterans as well as all other veterans. This event took place at the Heath
Airport and there were World War II era planes flying in and out of the airport
which included a B-25 Bomber and a C-47 as well as other fighter planes, there
were displays, food, vendors and music.
This was a joint operation with the Licking Co. CERT Team.
This was a community event to help with parking of over 3500 vehicles at 4
entrance gates, attendance was expected to be over 5000 people. The CERT/ARES
trailer was set up as the command post and net control. Thank you to all that
helped with this event.

Comments : August was a quiet month for Hocking County except for saying goodbye to a dear friend. Tom Davis N8DTF a long time member of HVARC became a silent key on July 25th. He was a very well liked operator and will be missed by all. September will be a more active month as we will be participating in Ohio State Parks on the Air from the new John Glenn Astronomy Park on Sept 7 and then providing communications once again for the annual Hocking Hills Indian run on September 21st.

Still trying to get as many operators as possible signed up for ARES Connect but have a few that want nothing to do with it. September will be a more active month as we will be participating in Ohio State Parks on the Air from the new John Glenn Astronomy Park adjacent to Old Mans Cave. On 7 Aug during the local net all stations were requested to go to the local ARES simplex frequency. All stations were able to check in with net control. We had a 2m station up and running with fldigi too. We got some Radiogram traffic from some of the visitors to our booth and passed those messages to our Coshocton OTS station, KL7RF, who in turn passed the traffic over OSSBN that day. We also let a couple children speak on our 2m setup. Fun day at the festival. Thanks to KC8PUW, KL7RF, KB8VIP, KC8SXL...... Coshocton ARES also attended a meeting at the Coshocton hospital being a member of Coshocton County Healthcare Coalition ...... AA8BN , EC.
