Ohio ARES monthly activity report

District 1
 I would like to welcome Dan Stahl KC8PBU as the new ADEC for Disrict 1. Dan brings his experience in the emergency management area and will be a great asset to the District in Emergency Communications. This month’s totals include the Northwest Ohio Traffic and Training Net figures. This net handled 153 pieces of traffic in 491 minutes with a total of 210 check ins in the month of December. Totals also include my time attending the NWS meeting in Huron County as well as attendance at a EMA Sector meeting in Seneca County. Also I was able to obtain funding for a new repeater and antenna for the 147.375 repeater that is a high profile repeater used by District 1 for many of its communications activity.

DISTRICT 3 SUMMARY:  100% of Nine Counties reporting: 295 Members (+1 change), 88 Total Events (54 Voice Net Sessions, 13 Digital Net Sessions, 20 Meetings-Drills-Training-Tests, 1 Public Service Events and 0 Emergency Operations for 512 Total Man-Hours.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY:  (19 members):  4 weekly voice net sessions and 1 other ARES events for a total of 5 events and 45 man-hours.

CLARK COUNTY:  (33 members):  2 weekly net sessions and 2 other ARES events for a total of 4 events and 22 man-hours.

DARKE COUNTY:  (13 members, +1 change):  3 weekly voice net sessions, 0 Public Service Event, 0 Emergency Operations and 1 other ARES events for a total of 4 events and 17 man-hours.

GREENE COUNTY:  (56 members):  17 weekly voice net sessions, 4 weekly digital net sessions, 1 Public Service Event, 0 Emergency Operations and 11 other ARES related activities for a total of 33 events and 154 man-hours.

Other activity: Continuing Mesh and Winlink maintenance, demonstrations, testing & training. One served agency training. DMR training. One Public Service Event (Beavercreek Annual Resolution 5K Run) including a VE Test Session.

LOGAN COUNTY (RACES UNIT):  (10 members):  4 weekly voice net sessions and 1 other RACES activity for a total of 4 events and 2 man-hours.

MIAMI COUNTY:  (25 members):  7 weekly voice nets, 3 weekly digital nets, 0 Public Service, 0 Emergency Operations and 0 other ARES events for a total of 10 events and 33 man-hours.
Comments:  MCES ARES/RACES Net 145.23(-): 12/3, 12/10, 12/17, 12/31, 147.21(+): 12/7, 12/14, 12/21, Three Digital nets using MT63-2KL on 145.23 on 12/3, 12/10, and 12/17.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY:  (84 members, 0 change):  4 weekly voice net sessions, 4 weekly digital net sessions, 0 Public Service Events, 0 Emergency Operations and 0 other ARES related events for a total of 8 events and 21 man-hours.

PREBLE COUNTY:  (16 members):  4 weekly net sessions; 0 Public Service Event, 0 Emergency Operations and 4 other ARES events for a total of 8 events and 5 man-hours.

SHELBY COUNTY:  (39 members):  5 weekly net sessions; 2 digital net sessions; 0 Public Service Event; 0 Emergency Operations and 1 other ARES event for a total of 8 events and 189 man-hours.
Comments: 5 Sunday night nets 146.835 Rptr, 2 Digital nets MT-63 2KL 443.200 Rptr, 1 Christmas Dinner / Meeting. Filed all ARRL Forms A, B & C and resubmitted SET AAR to DEC, SEC, SM & ARRL :-)

DISTRICT 3 ACTIVITIES:  4 District 3 ARES weekly voice net sessions for a total of 4 events and 26 man-hours.

District 4

Butler County: MONTHLY OBSERVATION OF MONTHLY TESTED OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS. DUAL STATEWIDE SEVERE WEATHER DRILL WITH THE BUTLER COUNTY EMA WITH COMMUNICATIONS TO THE EOC & SIMCELL. 4 OVER THE AIR TRAINING SESSIONS.

Hamilton County: Members participated in both local, state and regional nets on VHF and HF bands. Backup Cincy for 911 upgrade. A quiet EmComm activation month. Happy New Year!
DEC: It was a quiet month, which is how December typically goes here. Personally, I finally have a random wire up in the yard and having pretty good luck with it!

District 5

Stark County, Terry Russ N8ATZ Stark County ARES completed 4 public service nets for the month of December that totaled 136 check-ins. There were no additional public service activities held during the month. We have started the process of establishing the Tier 1 Certified ARES volunteers that have completed the four required NIMS courses as well as revising our master list of all remaining registered ARES volunteers. This process should be completed by the end of January. We hope to qualify additional volunteers during the first quarter of this year.

District 7

FAIRFIELD County: We are ongoing with efforts to increase our membership. The Lancaster and Fairfield County Amateur Radio Club has approved an ARES budget to begin the replacement of Emergency antennas and upgrade/installation of fully functional Emergency Stations at Fairfield County Fire Stations. The installation and functional testing of the Emergency Station in place at the American Red Cross in Lancaster is complete. The first phase of current Emergency capabilities and interoperability of ARES/LFCARC is complete, providing communications with operators, the Fairfield County EOC, Fairfield County Medical Center, The American Red Cross, and Fire Stations throughout Fairfield County. Additionally, the implementation of Phase II will provide the advantage of HT coverage countywide. The equipment upgrade and installation at our north site has given us complete HT coverage throughout the Buckeye Lake region. Procurement and logistics of ARES Safety vests are in process. NIMS certifications for all members is ongoing, approximately 75% complete. Current Status: During an event/emergency or training/testing, 7 ARES members can provide sustained off grid operation capabilities on either a base or go station without the use of a generator.

Licking County : December was a slow month for us. We will be gearing up for the EOC move in 2018 date to be determined. Welcome new member Paul KD8LEJ who moved into the county. We are looking forward to 2018 to be a busy and productive year.

Franklin County: December was a very quiet month in Franklin County. We spent additional time in our Emergency Communications Readiness Program. We're preparing for training and upcoming events in February and March. In our January 2018 meeting we will be recognizing those that contributed time and effort in 2017.

Union County: We are getting ready to meet weekly for training sessions beginning January 8th. Starting out we are going to go over the ARES handbook and work towards getting everyone to obtain the required NIMS/ICS courses required for ARES level 1. Some of the voice nets didn't get reported this month, 1 out or 4 was reported. Ed, KE8ANU received a leadership award from the

Union County EMA .

District 8

Counties reporting: Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Vinton EC
Athens: ACARA begins Tech license classes on Monday, January 8, 7-9 PM at Red Cross of Southeastern Ohio, 100 South May Avenue, Athens, OH 45701. Ends March 12 with VE session. SCARFfest (Nelsonville Hamfest) will be Sunday, January 14 8 AM to noon at Tri-County Career Center, SR 691, Nelsonville, OH 45764. ARRL-VEC VE session at 10 AM, Fee $15. Walk-ins welcome.

Gallia: Held our December ARES meeting on 12/19. Set aims and goals for 2018 to include finalizing NIMS training. Held 2 hour digital modes training for two members. Continued to check in with Ohio State-Wide DMR Net.

Hocking: HVARC handled the lineup of the Logan, Ohio Christmas parade this year. Great parade with 100 entries and a great ARES event. We want to wish all Hams every where a great New Year!
Lawrence: Total check ins for 2017 on the Ohio Valley ARES-RACES Net is 569.
Pike: Still waiting for completion of radio room construction to begin training for ncs and digital VHF & HF operations.

Vinton: I have attempted to contact local amateurs in Vinton County from the previous (currently non active) club. Very few appear to be active or interested. Those who are active are affiliated with Jackson County ARES. It may be wise to have the Jackson County EC take over for Vinton County as well, due to the lack of members and resources.
