Hey all! Thanks for your diligence on the monthly reports. I
enjoy reading about your activities. I also want to compliment you on your
increase in training- only a very few counties reported no training. Let’s keep
that ball rolling!! If you need more ideas, contact your EMA or Red Cross
Directors!
Good work on handling the flooding this past month!
What a mess.
Reminder- read the articles in the Ohio Journal on the
website or in the email distribution! And, remember to put August 1 on
your calendar for the Great Lakes Conference!
We have a number of positions shifting these days, I’ll put
a separate email out. MANY THANKS to those of you who are resigning, your
service is valuable to Ohio and ham radio. Thanks, and an encouraging word to
those who are stepping up into new positions!
Here is the summary of activities for June!
Thank you for everything you do!

Active month. Monthly meeting devoted to the GOBA

three days GOBA was in Wood County. Many compliments on our professionalism.

have been communicated to Jeff, N8SUZ, route coordinator.
Lucas County-EC Brenda Krukowski KB8IUP
Ottawa County-EC James Garber KB8TTR
We continue to cultivate our group. I would encourage all
ARES members to download and try the Zello app for your device. We use it in
Sandusky/ Ottawa Counties for Skywarn coordination and ops. I use it to comm
with family as well. It is an invaluable tool. We all know the benefit of
amateur radio and why it will work when everything else fails. However, Zello
is another tool in our toolbox that can help. Why not use it?!
Wyandot County-EC Ron Wilch KE8PX

group enjoyed Field Day.
Licking Licking County ARES had a very busy June!! As usual,
Field Day was a great success with 2 groups operating in Licking County NARA on
Horns Hill in Newark, and CRES and COOKEN operating at Infirmary Mound Park,
just south of Granville. We also took part in the annual Tour de Cure for 2015
which involved Delaware, Knox, and Licking Counties. Once again, we provided
NCS for all three counties via an RV located in Johnstown, Oh. it was a great
day for the tour and we had no major incidents this year. In addition, we had a
major exercise called Operation Guardian Shield. This exercise included seven
locations in Ohio, with the final focus at the Fire Academy in Reynoldsburg,
using live simulation and explosions. The scale of this exercise was larger
than most of us have experienced and included the National Guard, Ohio State
Troopers, local fire departments, local law enforcements, and HazMat teams. It
also gave us an opportunity to use the newly outfitted CERT/ARES trailer at the
Fire Academy located near the Licking County Mobile EOC as communications for
our county. Lots of things worked well and we found several thing that will be
improved in the near future. We also had a member on standby at the Licking
County Mobile EOC to provide emergency communications at a live chemical spill
in the northern part of Licking County.
Madison Our ARES group assisted with the Strawberry Festival
Bike Tour. There were four routes with the longest being 100 miles long. The
Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails discovered our services last year
and really like what we do, so much infact that they\\\'ve invited us to assist
with all of their bike rides this year.

District 10: Field Day definitely had adverse conditions
this year. Mainly the weather. ***
Ashtabula County: Had a blast at Field Day. Tho the bands
were not up to par... We still scored well but more importantly got a lot of
practice in and enjoyed a large turnout. Great to be amongst friends. Even had
a few new hams that passed their tech tests! *** Cuyahoga County: No report
received. ***
Geauga County: None ***
Lake County: Lake ARES ended the month with Net covering a
rolling power outage in the County. 20K homes lost power for a brief time. Ron,
KC8BTN, activated the Net with five check ins. June 7th eleven ARES volunteers
provided communication for the Lake Health 1/2 Marathon. Nearly 500 runners ran
a course from the Lake Farm Park through Chapin State Forest, then to
Penitentiary Glen Reservation, then back to the Farm Park. Operators were
stationed at the five water locations. Net Control interfaced with the local Fire
Departments. June 14th was the Sunday-in-June Bike Ride through Geauga County.
Nineteen volunteers from Lake, Geauga, and Cuyahoga Counties monitored the 750
plus riders. They traveled four routes of 25, 50, 63 and 100 miles through the
day. There was the normal flat tires and tired riders requiring transport.
Otherwise there were no major problems. Field day was wet at the Lake History
Center. Operators took advantage of the barn and log cabins on site to stay
dry. The ARES trailer was deployed on the lawn and provided a sung, dry
operating location. First reports indicated 3300 plus 6-A contacts were made
during the event. June was a busy month for Lake Co. ARES. ***
