October was a fairly quiet month as we had 1 - Skywarn Net on the 30th.

Hancock County: EC Evan Hartman W8KJR Our drill this month was the SEC which was an excellent exercise this year with great participation. Looking forward to next year.

Erie County: EC Bob Heim K8HLH Remodeling the EMA radio room, starting to put it back together. Adding 1-- 2/440 radio. We did our SET This month 10/1/16 72 man hours

Wood County: EC Eric Willman WD8LEI  Updated member count from updating membership at general meeting

Lucas County: EC Brenda Krukowski KB8IUP  Our Set will be done in December.

Ottawa County: EC James Garber KB8TTR  No Report

Wyandot County: EC Ron Wilch KE8PX  The Wyandot County Hams did not meet this month. We will be meeting at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital conference rooms on November 10. We will be discussing upcoming officer elections and the annual Christmas dinner party meeting in December.

District 3   Eight of nine counties reporting:  276 Members (includes all 9 counties), 96 Total Events (49 Voice Net Sessions, 7 Digital Net Sessions, 34 Meetings/ Drills/Tests/Training, 5 Public Service Events, 1 Emergency Operations), 952 Total Man-Hours.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY:  Three of the four voice nets were conducted with the NCS operating remote via echolink from Central Florida.  One monthly ARES meeting.

CLARK COUNTY:  Three weekly net sessions and two ARES events for a total of 5 events and 50 man-hours.  

DARKE COUNTY:  Five weekly voice net sessions and one other ARES event for a total of 6 events and 23 man-hours.

GREENE COUNTY:  Four GCARES weekly voice nets, four GCARES weekly digital nets, four GCARES weekly Mesh Discussion nets, five Bellbrook support group voice nets and four Fairborn support group voice nets, 15 License Course sessions, 1 Bellbrook Fire Department Open House Exhibit and 7 Greene County ARES/Miami Valley Mesh Alliance projects for a total of 44 events and 224 man-hours.

LOGAN COUNTY:  Four weekly voice net sessions for a total of 4 events and 2 man-hours.

MIAMI COUNTY:  No report received this month.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY:  Three weekly voice nets, three weekly digital nets and two ARES events – one was a request to deploy operators to all Montgomery County hospitals for up to 72 hours and the other was a standby net during the “switch-over” from the county 800 radio system to MARCS -- for a total of 2 events and 121 man-hours.

PREBLE COUNTY:  Four weekly net sessions, four public service event and one other ARES events for a total of 9 events and 186 man-hours.

SHELBY COUNTY:  Five weekly net sessions, one public service event and three other ARES events for a total of 9 events and 170 man-hours. 

DISTRICT 3 ACTIVITIES:  Four District 3 ARES Weekly Net sessions for a total of 4 events and 39 man-hours.

District 4

District highlights include the Queen Bee Half Marathon, and Run Like Hell 5K. 

Hamilton County has been engaging with LEPC, and had some "prep" time for a high-profile trial. More on that in the next report.

District 5

Terry Russ, N8ATZ, of Stark County Stark County ARES completed 4 public service nets for the month of October that totaled 112 check-ins. We took part in this years SET by establishing a public service net on our ARES Repeater. The net was conducted by Assistant EC Dave Beltz, WD8AYE from our station at the county EMA office. We notified EMA Director Tim Warstler and received 12 check-ins during the exercise. We also sponsored an ARES information table during the Massillon Hamfest that included a G0-Box display and informational literature. Many visitors stopped by with questions and comments during the hamfest. Dennis Conklin, AI8P, of Summit County Dennis Conklin, AI8P, DEC5 is acting EC until a suitable replacement can be found.

Delaware: Work continues on development of a club/ARES station at the county Red Cross building with two VHF and two HF antennas in the air and tables up and cable run for three HF stations and two VHF stations.

Marion: 2016 October was a take-a-breather month for the Marion ARES gang after a busy summer chocked full of activities. The month started off with a nice weekend camp out at the Indian Lake Summer digs of Don Freeman, KD8BKT. Don prepared his famous secret recipe chili over the open campfire and a good time was had by all. The ARES has been requested to provide backup communications from all polling locations around the county back to the Board of Elections office this year. EMA Director, Sarah McNamee, discussed this with our group at the September Training Session. A demonstration of using counterpoise wire antennas for HT’s was presented by Lynn, W8MLL

Counties reporting: Athens, Hocking, Lawrence, Pike, Ross,Scioto  

Athens: ACARA and SCARF members supported the Buckeye Trail Marathon on Saturday, October 1, 2016 and the Susan B. Komen Athens Race for the Cure on Sunday, October 23, 2016. The next event will be the Bobcat Trail Marathon on Sunday, November 6, 2016. 

Hocking: Our new EComm trailer is coming along nicely. Electric circuits, cabinets & shelves installed, Lettering to be added within the next few days and it will be ready for local Veterans and Christmas parade. 

Ross: Held four technician classes and a test session in conjunction with SVARC. Special thanks to John WB8GRX. 

Scioto: Still working on new equipment and new tower site to improve county and statewide communications. 

District 9

Coshocton: KL7RF AEC, filling in for AA8BN EC 

Muskingum: : Provided a 100mw fm station and radio communications for the Muskingum County flu shot clinic held at the fairgrounds. Volunteers from Guernsey County ARES also helped.

District 10

Thank you to all ARES volunteers who have helped during 2016. It\'s definitely been a busy year! 

Ashtabula County: No comments. 

Cuyahoga County: Things are winding down for the winter in Cuyahoga County. We will have one final meeting and then get together after the New Year. 

Geauga County: Things are winding down for the year. 

Lake County: 11 Operators provide communication for the Northern Ohio Marathon on October 2nd. A group of 6 operators activated the Jams A Garfield home for the 9th time during the NPOTA event this year. 

Lorain County: No Comments. 

Medina County: SET fell on the same day as Home Depot Safety Day where we had K8FH\\\'s comm trailer so the trailer, Medina EOC and Medina Hospital took part with nine operators manning the three locations. Public interest was better than in past years at the trailer. We gave handouts to the public as well as tours of the operating trailer.

MIAMI COUNTY:  Nine weekly voice net sessions, four weekly digital net sessions, three public service events and twelve other ARES/RACES events including (1) Operation Fire Station: All 24 Miami County Fire Station were manned by amateur radio operators, (2) Tipp City Full Scale Exercise, (3) a WACO Fly-in Special Event Station operating voice and digital modes on 40m, 20m and 2m, (4) a Technician Class License Course September 1^st through end on November, (5) Reception Center Check-in Drill, and seven other ARES/RACES event for a total of 28 events and 256 man-hours.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY:  Four weekly voice nets, four weekly digital nets and one ARES event (Training presented by Ohio Department of Health on operation of ODH-MARCS radios in hospital command centers) for a total of 9 events and 35 man-hours.  MoCoARES members also supported City of Kettering annual Labor Day “Holiday AT Home Parade” and USAF Marathon.

PREBLE COUNTY:  Four weekly net sessions, one public service event (annual ‘world famous’ Preble County Pork Festival) and two other ARES events for a total of 7 events and 90 man-hours.

SHELBY COUNTY:  Four weekly net sessions, one public service event (Sidney YMCA 5K Run) and four other ARES events (OSPOTA, Ohio ARES Conference, September ARES meeting and Fox Hunt Training) for a total of 9 events and 266 man-hours.

District 4

Butler: No comment

Hamilton: Activation for Cincy EMA backup radio testing due to new 800 MHz system installed. Bike Ride PS event. Members participated in several outside nets adding 12 hours to the numbers above. Outreach at local hamfest. Three attended ARES Summit in the Columbus area.

District 5

Gary Amato, KB8HTU, Columbiana County Provided communications for a local festival where we practiced using commercial radio equipment from Emergency Management. Provided communication and interoperability at another street fair also monitoring weather for fair officials.T erry Russ, N8ATZ, Stark County Stark Co ARES completed 4 public service nets for the month of September that totaled 116 check-ins. There were no public service events during the month but County EC Terry Russ, N8ATZ and Assistant EC Don Wade, W8DEA attended the fall Ohio ARES Conference where Don gave a presentation on having a family emergency plan.

District 6

Richland County ARES had 1 Training Session and 1 Skywarn Net Richland County ARES Installed a DMR Radio in Richland County EMA. Richland County ARES Holds OHIO DMR Net 1st.and 3rd Wednesday of each month on the OHIO Talkgroup.

District 7

DELAWARE: September passed quickly with just a couple of events and building a new club/ARES station in the local Red Cross building. HF/VHF/UHF gear is getting set up, a new 160 meter loop is in the air and antenna planning is underway. FRANKLIN: We are gearing up for the Nationwide Children\\\'s Hospital Columbus Marathon on October 16th. We can always find a place for someone that would like to participate.

LICKING: Licking County had a slow September! We were asked by Sean Grady, EMA Director to help with communications for the annual Licking Co. River Round Up at the Black Hand Gorge Nature Preserve. Sean’s main goal was to test amateur radio communications in the park due to the location and the high rock faces along the river. The test was a huge success and Sean was pleased how well ARES was able to communicate in the area. Many thanks to Marion Co. for hosting the ARES Conference, it was great. The remodel work on the ARES radio room at the EOC is starting to move forward and we excited to see it get started. Many thanks to Sean & John for their support of ARES and those members who have spent many hours on the planning of the radio room remodel.

MARION: September was a busy time for the Marion ARES gang. The annual Marion Popcorn Festival started things off with a parade lasting two hours which involved the ARES providing communication along the route. The ARES also provided overnight security during the three days of the festival at downtown locations where vendors and rides were located. AEC, Don Freeman, KD8BKT, headed up the security detail from an Emcom trailer located downtown and scheduled the members for the 9pm to 9am shifts. Jim Bird, KD8KCH, headed up a team that installed new antennas atop the county administration building and ran several hundred feet of coax to the ARES station located in the new 911 Dispatch Center/EOC. The Statewide ARES Conference was at the Marion Tech/OSU campus. The Marion crew was involved in all phases from the initial planning, manning the talk in radio, parking lot direction, to even making the coffee the morning of the conference. All went well and it was fun meeting so many ARES members from around the state.

District 8

Athens: ACARA members activated Ohio State Parks on the Air at Stroud's Run SP in Athens and Lake Logan SP in Oak Hill using portable antennas and emergency power. Upcoming public service events are the Buckeye Trail Marathon on Saturday October 1, 2016 and Komen Athens Race for the Cure on Sunday October 23, 2016.

Scioto: Still having repeater issues from lightning strike in August for part of September operations

District 9

Coshocton: This month, an lepc meeting attended, monthly ARES meeting, a lot of preparation for October 1 SET. Some of our served agencies, sheriff, hospital, EMA were prepared with set books, which included messages to be sent. 213 and radiogram, digital practice. Checking our fldigi stations were ready to go was off importance at agencies and at home stations. An OTS station and backup OTS was ready to go as well. Aa8BN, Coshocton County EC

District 10

Ashtabula County: the past month was a good one and a bad one. Good because we had several events to participate in. Bad because we found out that we had several weaknesses that need to be addressed. We sat back in confidence and figured that we would be prepared. Wrong. First off we found that our calling tree needs to be updated. We have had several people move or pass on in the past year and they were keystones of the calling tree. Without them things can come to a halt. Organization of equipment. Twice we were surprised that we couldn't find gear that was supposed to be put back where it belonged and has now come up missing. Several other small problems add to the mix. And since the set drill I have been conferring with Donnie, KD8OSZ, and though it pains us- we HAVE to bring in another AEC to take Bob's position. Because of our schedules we have been caught flat footed. So... I can proudly say that Matthew Pitts has stepped up to fill this void as not only our resident digital guru but, now, also my new AEC. I will be sending out emails with new contact information for myself, Donnie, and Matt.

Cuyahoga County: ARES Members assisted with activating the National Weather Service office in Cleveland during widespread severe storms. Public service event season has come to a close and we are now looking ahead to 2017.

Geauga County: This was a big month for Geauga County ARES. Our big public service event for the year - the 194th Great Geauga County Fair - took place September 1 through 5. This requires an incredible amount of man hours. This year we had more than ever - that's 1350 man hours! At the fair, we work with the Sheriff's Office, the Firefighters Association and the Fair Board to drive golf carts and help people get to and from their vehicles, as well as to provide eyes and ears on the fairgrounds to help look for missing children and parents, and to perform other miscellaneous tasks as instructed by the Sheriff's Office. Additionally, the Geauga Amateur Radio Association ran a special event station to promote the fair and amateur radio. We also participated in the biennial Perry Nuclear Power Plant drill sponsored by FirstEnergy and the Geauga County Department of Emergency Services. This year’s drill involved problems with the reactor that ended up requiring evacuations. We staffed the Emergency Operations Center and sent hams to man the pre-planned emergency shelters. We made contact with Ashtabula and Lorain counties on both HF and 2 meters, and the state EOC W8SGT on HF. This drill was evaluated by FEMA, and the ham operators staffing the EOC were interviewed by a FEMA evaluator who herself is a ham! The whole exercise received a glowing review from FEMA, showing that our area is well-prepared to handle a problem at the plant.

Lake County: The big event this month was the Perry Nuclear Power Plant drill with the E.O.C.and all the County Agencies. This was our SET operation for this year. We demonstrated our Comm. trailer at the Willoughby Hills F D Touch a Truck Event. September was our 8th NPOTA activation at the James A. Garfield Home. Then there was the ARES Conference in Marion. September was a very active month

EC’s - PLEASE forward this to all your members!

Hey everyone!   I have attached the August report summary from all our active counties.  We had 85 training sessions with 1316.3 hours. We ran 81 public service events totaling 2289.8 hours. There were 143 emergency operations with 163.5 hours.  Overall, that’s 5528.3 hours Ohio ARES members contributed to their communities! Well done!

PLEASE ATTEND OUR OHIO ARES CONFERENCE, September 24^th at the Marion Technical College (OSU Marion) campus!  Our folks are working diligently to give you some excellent information!  I know there are many conflicts with activities and that’s what we get for having a major, active organization! But those EC’s who are not engaged in activities are expected to attend, and of course ALL ARES MEMBERS are invited! This will be worth your time!  Registration is available from the arrl-ohio.org website at http://arrl-ohio.org/SEC/form.html    This is a very nice venue, with comfortable seating and lots of plusses! The Marion ARES gang will be taking good care of our housekeeping, coffee and welcoming, so we thank them in advance!

OHIO SET – “Not your gramma’s SET!”   The Ohio SET will be held on the national date of OCTOBER 1 – and our team is planning “the Big One” to be a true test of our capabilities!  Here’s the deal: last year we handled a long-term power outage, and considered some of the radio-related issues that would present. This year, we’re moving way past that to TEOTWAWKI – “The end of the world as we know it”.  Consider what would happen in society with a total breakdown, caused by any of several reasons. Food, water, all the necessities would become targets and behavior would presumably take a really bad turn.  It will be up to us, as a remaining communications link, to pass important messages back and forth with other counties and the Sarge, to share what would surely become a much-desired commodity- information.

One cool addition to this year’s SET is the incorporation of the Ohio Military Reserve!  We will be working with the OMR which will be conducting a tabletop to go along with our scenario. Next year, we are expecting actual movement of troops!  So we have a military audience this year contributing to the exercise.

Expect to begin around 8 with alerting coming from the OHEOC to district then county EC’s.  There will be injects throughout the day to keep everyone interested.   Please plan to participate- it requires all of our effort to make this a success!

Fall Stuff – We’re leaving summer behind, and with that most of our active months are complete. I thank you all for everything you’ve done to make amateur radio a vital part of our communities again this year! Your work gets noticed!   As we go into winter, don’t let the activity die…get some training topics ready for your monthly meetings to keep the interest and activities going!

RNC – GRAB THE NEAREST OCTOBER ISSUE OF CQ MAGAZINE!  We have a big report coming out in the October edition of the Ohio ARES activities during RNC!  The editors were very impressed with your work and grabbed the story and photos we contributed!  Nice work, again, everybody!!

Ohio ARES Monthly Report  August, 2016

District 1

Totals include figures from Northwest Ohio Traffic and Training Net and District 1 Skywarn. More than usual severe weather for the later part of summer. Been quiet up til then.

District 2

 On Tuesday the 23rd - We participated in a Full scale Tornado Exercise at the Defiance Co Elementary School, Including City Police, County Fire departments, and Life Flight. On Wednesday the 24th District 2 was struck by 2 super cell Tornadic Storms that spawned 8 Tornados in a 6 county area. This storm caused a lot of property loss in Defiance & Paulding Counties, It was fortunate that there was only minor personal Injury. This storm passed between A large manufacturing facility composed of several steel span buildings and a Natural Gas compressor station so things could have a LOT worse. We activated a storm spotter net during the event and I submit after action reports from my net control team.

District 3

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY: The four public service events refer to (4) days of operating a 40m demonstration station at the Champaign Co. Fair.

LOGAN:NA

MIAMI COUNTY: MCES ARES/RACES Net 145.23-: 8/7, 8/14, 8/21, 828, MCES ARES/RACES Net 147.21+: 8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 8/25. Weather net on Aug 20th. Conducted a county wide radio check drill on Aug 27th where operators staffed the various fire stations and EMS locations around the county to check radio communication of the two primary repeaters and simplex frequency. Radio coverage results are still being processed, but show good results with the W8FW (Troy, Ohio) repeater and coverage of half the county using the W8SWS (Piqua, Ohio) repeater.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY: 2 Officers attended the District 3 meeting held on Aug 13, On Aug 20 our partner agency Dayton Skywarn did activate due to Tornado touchdown being indicated in Darke and Miami Counties, operators in both counties were activated and relayed information to Dayton Skywarn who relays directly to NWS Wilmington, a high end EF0 was confirmed in Darke County. On Aug 28 both Dayton and Cincinnati were dealing with Flash Flooding, Norwood received over 4" of rain while Kettering saw 3". And on Aug 30 we held a tabletop exercise during a bi-monthly membership meeting. They included representatives from Mound ARA, Centerville ARS, Huber Heights ARC, Dayton Chapter of the American Red Cross and Dayton Skywarn. We learned how the Red Cross and best utilize Amateur Radio in the event of normal communications aren't available and what the capabilities of our partner clubs could do if they're resources were needed, and who has what priority of what repeater and where to send people who are looking for information.

Hamilton: Assisted Boy Scout Pack with tracking a HAB using APRS and 2m beacon. Bike Ride. All ARES membership meeting. Local flood warnings monitoring (2 days). County wide floods on standby by EMA (2 days). Assist Cincy FD with ham radio installation in command van. Many admin and misc meeting hours.

District 5

Stark County - Terry, N8ATZ Stark County ARES completed 5 public service nets for the month of August that totaled 142 check-ins. We provided communications support for the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Grand Parade on Saturday, August 6th utilizing 27 operators. Communications support included parade staging, route monitoring, dispersal and medical support. This is the largest public service effort in the county handled by radio operators. This totaled 162 volunteer service hours. Assistant EC David Beltz, WD8AYE worked with our county EMA office to complete the remodeling of the Communications Center that now includes new furniture, county communications radio, a new amateur radio dual band system and a new computer system with internet service that will support our digital operations during drills and local emergency response.

District 6

District 7

Delaware: After 6 months of planning and preparation the Delaware ARES was staffed along with the Marion and Morrow County ARES groups to support the first Ironman 70.3 event in Delaware. Our combined groups provided all of the radio coverage from the 1.2 mile swim at Delaware Beach to the 56 mile bike ride and finally to the 13.1 mile half marathon. Everything went as planned and our coverage was much appreciated by the sponsors, fire/EMS and law enforcement in all three counties.
Fairfield: Public service event, Millersport corn festival.

Franklin: Our Emergency Communications Testing program has begun at several locations in Franklin County. We have established an MOU with the Franklin County Coroner's office and will begin testing their radio systems next month. Also coming up First AID/ AED training and Active Shooter Training scheduled in December. Website development and database work continues.
Licking County: We were asked by EMA Director Sean Grady to help with parking and security at the Hartford Fair, LCARES had teamed up with CERT and both teams provided parking and security support for Friday night’s Rough Truck event. We had a total of 7 hams, 5 were LCARES members, (Bret (EC) KD8SCL, Mike (AEC) WD8JLP, Tim KA8PCP, LaVergne N8HLP, David KB3DAJ) 1 was the LC CERT Coordinator Lori Dixon KD8OLM and 1 was the EMA Director Sean Grady W1GDY. CERT had 8 members on site. Bret was mobile command with Sean who had MARCs comms with the SO and was operating a briefcase mobile rig with a mag mount antenna on simplex sitting in the back seat of a 4 seat Gator. Sean, John & Bret also was providing help with security and checking on the LCARES & CERT members. Things went very well except for the rain and heat, but we adapted and conquered. After we were advised that we can secure for the evening, Bret got a report from one of the fairs directors that the fair board was impressed and pleased with our performance and communications abilities and that they are thinking about next year already. A big kudos to both teams.
Marion: August - 2016 August was a busy month for the Marion ARES gang starting with a camp out the first weekend. Don Freeman, KD8BKT, hosted the group at his fantastic Summer home and campsite at Indian Lake. Several trailers, tents and motor homes were parked together for a great weekend. Everyone had a fun time on Don’s pontoon boat and exploring the area on golf carts. Saturday night saw a cookout out and potluck featuring Don’s secret recipe chili cooked over the campfire. We finished the evening under the stars watching an Indiana Jones movie thanks to Dan Wade, N8WOB, who brought along his projector and a large screen. The next week the ARES provided security from 7pm until 4am for the Ohio Buckeye Classic All Color Antique Tractor and Equipment Show, held at the Marion County Fairground from August 11th to the 13th. There was several hundred tractors and other farm equipment on display along with vendors showing their products for the event. August 21st brought around two thousand bicycle racers into Marion and Morrow Counties for the Ironman 72 event. The ARES members were positioned at the aid stations and other locations along the route to provide communication back to the EOC and event sponsors in case of medical emergencies and give progress of the riders around the course. The monthly training session included a discussion of the antenna locations and installation at the 911 Call Center by Jim Bird, KD8KCH, who is leading up the project. Doug Ford, KB8FMC, gave an informative program on what is needed in a 24 hour go bag, showing what is in his, along with suggestions others might need in their personal bags.

District 8

Counties reporting: Athens, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Ross, Scioto, Vinton EC comments: Athens: Several members activated special event station K8M to commemorated the 60th anniversary of the King Midget Motor Car manufactured in Athens after WW II. Hocking: We are currently converting a 6x12 box trailer into a new Emergency Communications vehicle for our HVARC. Work is progressing nicely and it should be ready for limited use in the next couple of days. We will be trying it out at Lake Logan during the Ohio State Parks on the Air if anyone wants to come join us. Ross: Limited attendance at last Ross/Pike ARES meeting. Looking to plan a disaster exercise at this month's meeting. Coshocton: Monthly ARES meeting had KB8PXM,Charlie, talked about his experience as a Red Cross Volunteer and his recent Coshocton County ARES involvement with the RNC event . He volunteered for the Akron Red Cross station. We went through the process and he was issued cims credentialing in short order. The system worked well. Thanks to Charlie for volunteering his time. During the Ohio QSO party we activated the Coshocton EOC, using the W8CCA club call. Op AA8BN. A couple dozen contacts were made, a few of which were other states. Lake County: We operated in the Dry run for the Perry Nuclear Power Plant Drill at the Lake County E.O.C. During the dry run we discovered a 80m Antenna problem. Part of the antenna was on the ground and in the weeds due to maintenance mowing on the roof. A new antenna has been installed. We are now ready for the FEMA Drill on the 13th. Number Six activation of the James A Garfield home was celebrated with a birthday cake for the Park Service employees. We ended the month providing communications for the first L..C.H.S Bike Tour of Lake County

District 1

Totals include figures from the District 1 Skywarn Net. Increase in membership is due to re-evaluation of the Wood County membership role and several new members picked up from Field Day. I want to than Darl Deeds NA8W for his work as EC for Hancock County. It has been my personal pleasure working with Darl and I wish him the best in his retirement. In that regard I would like to welcome Evan Hartman W8KJR as the new EC for Hancock County. Evan has been an AEC for Hancock County and I look forward to working with Evan.

District 2

Defiance Co. experienced strong down-burst winds destroying trees and two cars in localized neighborhoods. A storm spotter net was active during this event and damage reports were sent to the NWS.

Williams Co. ran a VEC session yielding 3 new licensees

Van Wert Co. provided communications for their annual Peony Parade.

District 3

Miami: MCES ARES/RACES Net 145.23-: 6/2, 6/9, 6/16, 6/23, 6/30, MCES ARES/RACES Net 147.21+: 6/5, 6/12, 6/19, 6/24. The Miami County Amateur Radio Club held a Field Day event with 16 in attendance with several hours spent going thru the steps of making a 40 and 20 meter dipole along with training newly lic operators in tuning dipole antennas. These same two antennas where then used during the Field Day event. Photos can be found on the W8FW website at www.w8fw.com. The ARES/RACES members support two several weather events this month, with no damage from ether event.
Montgomery: MoCo ARES held 3 voice nets, 3 digital nets, and had our General Membership Meeting. On June 2nd, we had an all be it brief activation. The Montgomery County EMA received a request from Warren County EMA for Personnel to assist with a missing person search. The target was a 78 y/o man with Alzheimer last seen about 9:10am at a McDonalds on SR 123 in Franklin, Warren County, Ohio. While arriving at the Command Post and checking in the man was located by the University of Dayton Police in the parking lot some 25 miles away where he had last been seen just before 2pm. We also participated with The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure that had 1600 cyclist which passed through Montgomery County for 4 days of their week long trip, including early Thursday, June 28th when a strong storm system came through our area. We had a total of 20 volunteer who worked 151 man hours for the event. We would like to thank all of our volunteers as well as Dayton Amateur Radio Association and Germantown Amateur Radio Society for assisting to find those volunteers and we also give thanks to the Miami Valley RF Group and Mound Amateur Radio Association for the use of their repeater during the event.

Preble: This was a very buys month for Preble county. We participated in two SKYWARN activations, GOBA assistance in the county and ARRL Fielday. All a great success. Special thanks to KD8QFM Brian for his support on GOBA and Dave KD8TAF (Preble EMA dir.). Fielday is more than a contest. We use it as a legitimate test of ARES capabilities. As always most things went well and some things did not. Special thanks goes out to the Gasper TWP fire dept and Fire Chief Mike Jefferies (KC8NZT-AEC) who hosted Preble county fielday. A delicious meal was prepaired and the on station fire/emt personal joined in with us.

District 4

The DEC was able to visit 8 Field Day sites in 5 of the 8 counties. I could write an article on the positive things I saw at so many locations. Hamilton County was pleased to host the SEC at their recent EC/AEC meeting. A little \"outside\" perspective is never a bad thing. E-ops hours were to support the NWS office in Wilmington.

Butler County: Members helped provide communication for the 2016 GOBA which had its Base Camp for the first time in the City of Hamilton. Members maned the ARECC at Butler Tech throughout the week providing Net Control and coordinating with the other Counties involved. All and all a big success with a Big THANK YOU by Jeff N8SUZ for all the help.

District 5

Summit County - KA8OAD - A couple of us went to the Summit County chapter of the Red Cross to test what repeaters we could hit from the Red Cross in preparation for the upcoming RNC.

Stark County - N8ATZ - Stark County ARES completed 4 public service nets for the month of June that totaled 126 check-ins. There were no public service events during the month except many ARES members participated in Field Day weekend activities with several Stark Co clubs practicing their emergency preparedness skills. Efforts are still underway to prepare for our annual Profootball HOF Festival. The Community Parade will be on Sunday, July 24th.

Columbiana County - KB8HTU - Completed FEMA evaluated drills with Beaver Valley Power Station, Columbiana County EMA, and various Fire Depts. Provided comm from care and reception centers interfacing with The Red Cross. Provided both voice and digital communications from the field sites to EMA.

District 6

WAYNE Annual 100 mile run event presented new challenges and opportunities. Challenge was to log runners at net control so that location of runners can be determined. Planned on separate repeater for data until found out the night before that the power was very low. Backup was antenna on fire tower and operating simplex from the bottom. One station used FLDIGI very successfully. Others photographed log sheets and text messaged them to net control. Again, no major medical issues. RICHLAND COUNTY ARES GROUP HELD FIELD DAY IN SOUTH PARK IN MANSFIELD OHIO OT TO MIX 1800 TO RECENT TECHNOLOGY WE OPERATED OUT OF A WAR OF 1812 BLOCKHOUSE AND IN THE ERA FROM JOHNNY APPLESEED WAS A GREAT TIME HAVE INCLUDED WITH FILE

District 7

Marion County-- June was a busy month for the Marion ARES crew. It started the first Saturday with the ARES providing route security for the Hot Tamale Bike Tour. For those who don’t know what that is, the HOT stands for Heart of Ohio Tailwinds, the Marion Bike Club. TAMALE is Tour Around Marion At Low Elevation, because most of the route is very flat. The tour has four loops, an eight mile, 16 mile, 32 mile and 64 mile and attracts several hundred bicycle riders every year. It is a great training exercise for our group and the bike club along with the riders appreciate the fact we are there along the route. June brought a couple of weather events where standby nets were established, however, we dodged the bullet on both, and the most severe weather went to our South. June means Field Day and AEC Don Freeman, KD8BKT did a great job of planning the event this year. He took charge of everything from planning for the pulled pork dinner along with pot luck from the group, which we all know is the most important part of Field Day, to bringing the ARES EMCOMM trailer and planning the antenna locations for all the stations operating on site. Another big thanks goes to Clint Canterbury, KD8UUF, who besides being an ARES member, is also Chief of the First Consolidated Fire Department, for allowing us to use the facilities at their Station Three for our Field Day site. He also volunteered the use of one of their large mobile generators which was put to good use.
Madison Co. no report

DELAWARE CO-- The Delaware ARES continues a summer of activities and is closely involved with our city and county first responders planning for a very large regional triathlon. Known as the Ironman 70.2 the August 21st event will see more than 2,000 competitors swim, bike and run for a total of 70.2 miles. Covering three counties we are working closely with the Marion and Morrow County ARES groups to provide extensive coverage with Mesh video from several critical locations.

FAIRFIELD CO-- FD AS 5A 4 RADIO NIGHT MTGS FRO ARES TRAINING 4 WX TRAINING NETS FOR ARES 4 CHECKIN, RADIO CHECK NETS

FRANKLIN CO-- Franklin County ARES enlisted the Franklin County Mesh Team as part of the Rickenbacker FAA mandated Airport Drill to provide live video back to the Port Columbus EOC. Those in the EOC shared positive comments in the ability to watch the Coroner's Team on-site.

KNOX CO-- The group helped with the Tour de Cure bike event. We continue to grow our leadership team and work with our county EMA on several projects.

LICKING CO-- Licking County had a busy June! We had 14 members help with the Tour de Cure event and 3 members help with the 5k Jail Break event, both were the same day and were successful events, there were no serious injuries that were reported in Licking Co. for the Tour de Cure, several riders stopped mid course on the 60 & 100 mile due to the heat. EMA director Sean Grady thanked us for our participation and support for the Jail Break 5k run. Field Day was a success as well for the Licking Co. clubs. Thanks for everybody’s participation and support and thanks to all who visited Field Day.

District 8

Counties reporting: Athens, Hocking, Lawrence, Pike, Ross EC comments:

Athens: Jeff Slattery, N8SUZ and Jan Slattery, KD8PUJ provided communications support for Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure in southwest Ohio. Athens County ARA participated in Field Day from Athens County Fairgrounds. Sunday Creek Amateur Radio Federation did Field Day from Burr Oak Lake State Park. Hocking: Hocking county had a very well attended Field Day that was again held in our EMA club room and adjacent parking lot with our new ECOM trailer. We did not have the best of luck with contacts due to poor band conditions after dark but we had a lot of fun, a wonderful potluck dinner and great fellowship. Some of our man power was pulled away to assist with a city wide emergency caused by a major water leak the day before. It left Logan, Enterprise and Rockbridge with no water for two days and a boil alert for several more days. A couple of operators volunteered to assist with passing out bottled water at the fairgrounds on both Saturday and Sunday. Although the ham club nor AREAS were ever requested we did utilize our ham radios for a few logistic communications. So those hours are included in this report. 73 to all!

Lawrence: good testing,county wide drill DEC comments: Several area hams have been participating in National Parks on the Air along the National Trail at Burr Oak Lake State Park, Hopewell Culture in Chillicothe and Put-In-Bay Perry National Monument.

District 9

COSHOCTON CO: Main event of the month was field day of course. A dozen ARES participated with the Coshocton County Amateur Assoc. W8CCÀ. We had a great time. It was a good exercise for all. The EMA Director attended as well. Over the last several months ARES has had meetings each month before club meetings. Thanks to AB8RR for arranging for several laptops for ARES to use. We Applied FLDIGI to each and other programs of importance. Lastly, AB8SV conducted an ARES net from the station at the Sheriff Dept. We made use of the calling tree for a practice too. 9 events, 166 hours. EC Steve Wheatcraft, AA8BN

GUERNSEY CO: Conducted a full 24 hour 3A field day operation with 18 ARES members involved. 7 ARES members supported the local Relay for Life event. Also, 7 ARES members conducted a Roadside clean up. 7 events, 265 hours. EC Richard W. Wayt, WD8SDH

MONROE CO: Report for June 2016. The Monroe County EOC was active all night on June 22 and the early morning hours of June 23 due to severe weather in our area. The Monroe County EMA and Belmont County EMA maintained contact via 2meters during the severe weather as a means to keep each other updated on watches and warnings as they approached our area. Operations began at 7:00pm on June 22 and ended at around 3:00am on June 23. Communications were conducted on the Belmont County 145.210 repeater. Also on June 18th the Monroe County EMA and the Belmont County EMA conducted a test to see if we were able to communicate on simplex which we were able to do so. 2 events, 9 hours. MUSKINGUM CO: Field day was an all solar, battery training for members. Though field day went well it was followed by the loss of WD8BXU, one of our members. Our condolences are with his daughter, KD8WUN. 5 events, 10 hours. EC Elizabeth Nichols, KC8SIQ

A group of new amateur radio operators are becoming active in Morgan County. Also have received an application to take over EC function for the county. This is the first radio hams within Morgan county to become active.in many years. DEC G. Sonny Alfman.

District 10

June was busy with Field Day, and preparations for the RNC. July will be crazy busy with the RNC and POHR. Preparations are also underway for the Burke Airport Mass Casualty Drill on Aug 6. ***

Ashtabula County: Jun has been a fun month! With the weather being warm and dry we have had plenty of time to work on our antennas, our mobile setups and the works. Field Day 2016 went well! We scaled some aspects of our operation down in an effort to streamline things. This proved to work out well. We were also blessed to have close to a dozen visitors show up and even a young man who attended and took his tech test and passed on his first try! KD8OSZ has stepped up and taken WD8PVB\'s place as net control for our weekly net and is doing a great job. Here\'s to hoping for a great July!! 

Cuyahoga County: Many ARES members participated in local field day events. Preparations are tentatively finalized for the RNC. All EOC staffing is full. Red Cross has openings only for backup operators. Comms plan has been finalized and we are ready to go!

Geauga County: The 194th Great Geauga County Fair is coming up, September 1-5 all day. Geauga County ARES has two major responsibilities: Driving golf carts to help people get to and from their vehicles in the parking lot and to get around the fairgrounds, and walking the fairgrounds to provide extra eyes and ears for the Sheriff's Office. Last year, we responded to a call on the Sheriff channel for a lost child, and one of our volunteers found the child and brought him safely to the deputies. This is the second time we have found a lost child before the deputies. We need a lot of volunteers for this operation, so please get the word out and check out http://www.geaugacountyares.org to get on our mailing list.

Lake County: ARES started the month with the Lake Health 1/2 Marathon. Then the Sunday in June Bike ride out of Burton Ohio covering courses of 25, 40 , 62 and 100 miles, then Lake History Center Civil War Encampment, Oh yeah then there was this ARES thing called Field Day, operating 6 Alpha. We ended the month providing communications for assembling the Fairport Harbor Mardi Gras parade. July looks to be much slower.

Lorain County: No Comments.

Medina County: Field Day moved and changes made in many areas. New people helped in many areas such as setup and operating.
